What's Inside VapoLung: The 154 mg Label, Line by Line

Last updated:

The Quick Read

Each 4-spray serving of VapoLung (0.60 mL) carries a 154 mg proprietary blend of five ingredients: mullein leaf, ginger root, bromelain, organic lemon and Cordyceps militaris. Single amounts are not printed. The ingredients have traditional respiratory uses, but direct human evidence for lung benefits is limited, and the amounts allowed by a 154 mg total are small next to typical research doses.

How to read this panel

The VapoLung panel gives one weight for the active blend, 154 mg, and lists the five ingredients inside it. A dagger in the Daily Value column means no government reference amount exists for these botanicals, which is normal for herbs.

Everything after "Other ingredients" makes up the liquid itself. Water and glycerin form the base, glycerin adds a mild sweetness, citric acid and natural flavors shape the taste, and potassium sorbate with sodium benzoate keep the opened bottle from spoiling.

The rest of the label tells you to shake well, spray 4 pumps into the mouth or onto the tongue once daily, keep the bottle away from heat, light and humidity, and skip it if the safety seal is broken. It names the distributor as Instituto Experience, Lakeland, FL 33804.

The ceiling math for a 154 mg blend

VapoLung does not print single amounts, but U.S. labeling rules require blend ingredients to appear in descending order of weight. That gives every ingredient a hard ceiling: the second item can be at most half the blend, the third at most a third, and so on. The first item must be at least a fifth.

Bromelain3rd51.3 mgnot fixed
Organic lemon extract4th38.5 mgnot fixed
Cordyceps militaris5th30.8 mgnot fixed
Ceilings are 154 mg divided by the ingredient's position. Real amounts can be far lower.

One more number is worth doing. Bromelain is rated at 2,400 GDU per gram, a measure of enzyme activity. Even at its 51.3 mg ceiling, a VapoLung serving would carry roughly 123 GDU of bromelain activity.

What each VapoLung ingredient is known for

Mullein and ginger: the throat-and-airway pair

Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) is a tall, woolly-leaved plant that herbalists have long steeped for coughs and chest colds. The leaves are rich in mucilage, a slippery fiber that coats the throat, which explains the traditional use. Modern human trials on mullein leaf extract for lung function are few, so the claims on the VapoLung sales page rest mostly on that tradition. The 10:1 figure means about ten parts of dried leaf went into each part of extract.

Ginger root was traditionally used for asthma, flu and indigestion. Today, NCCIH says, the research centers on nausea, with decent support for pregnancy-related nausea and uncertain results elsewhere [1]. Research summaries on Examine reach a similar picture [2]. One detail matters for a spray: NCCIH lists mouth and throat irritation among ginger's possible side effects [1].

Bromelain and Cordyceps: an enzyme and a fungus

Bromelain is a group of protein-digesting enzymes from pineapple stem. It is promoted for sinusitis and swelling, and NCCIH concludes there is not enough high-quality research to say whether oral bromelain should be recommended for sinusitis; it is usually well tolerated, with stomach upset and diarrhea as the most common complaints [3]. Memorial Sloan Kettering adds that allergic reactions have been reported and that lab work suggests a possible increase in bruising and bleeding [4].

Cordyceps militaris is a cultivated fungus, a relative of the wild Cordyceps prized in traditional Chinese medicine for fatigue, coughs and general vitality. Memorial Sloan Kettering notes that no major side effects have been reported, that human evidence is limited, and that people on blood thinners such as warfarin should check with a provider first [5].

Lemon and the liquid base

Organic lemon extract is there mainly for flavor and a fresh finish, alongside the natural flavors and citric acid. The base is purified water and glycerin. The sales page calls VapoLung "100% natural"; the bottle also lists potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate, two common preservatives. Neither is unusual in a liquid supplement, but the label is the more precise description.

Where a spray fits in breathing

Air travels down the windpipe into branching airways that end in tiny sacs where oxygen enters the blood [6]. The airways are lined with mucus and small hairs that move trapped particles up and out [7]. VapoLung is sprayed into the mouth and swallowed; it is not an inhaled product and does not reach the lungs directly. A cough that lingers, or comes with fever, chest pain or blood, needs a clinician [8], as do the many conditions grouped as lung disease [9].

What a fair dose looks like

VapoLung uses a proprietary blend, so you cannot see how much of each ingredient you get. That is legal and common, but it makes comparison with research harder. Ginger studies on nausea commonly use around a gram a day; VapoLung's ginger can be 77 mg at most. Bromelain research generally works with several hundred milligrams, against a 51.3 mg ceiling here.

Small amounts are not automatically useless, and a spray may suit people who will not take capsules. Still, the fair reading is that VapoLung is a gentle daily blend, not a high-dose formula. If you want to know the exact split, ask the seller at [email protected] before you order; you are entitled to ask.

What VapoLung does not claim

The VapoLung label claims support for normal airway function, healthy respiratory function and "respiratory activation", and it carries the standard FDA statement. It is not a treatment for asthma, COPD, allergies or infections, it does not replace an inhaler or any prescribed medicine, and it should not delay a visit to a doctor. Some lines on the sales page, such as "wheeze-free breathing", go further than the ingredient research supports.

Label terms, defined

Proprietary blend
A group of ingredients listed under one total weight, in descending order, without single amounts.
10:1 extract
A concentrate made from about ten parts of raw plant per part of finished extract.
GDU
Gelatin digesting units, the standard measure of bromelain's enzyme activity.
Daily Value (†)
A reference intake; the dagger means none has been set for that ingredient.
Mucilage
A slippery plant fiber that coats and soothes the throat, found in mullein leaves.
Oral spray
A liquid pumped into the mouth and swallowed; different from an inhaler, which reaches the airways.
FDA-registered facility
A plant listed with the FDA. Registration is not approval of the product made there.

Ingredient and safety questions

What are the ingredients in VapoLung?

VapoLung contains a 154 mg proprietary blend of mullein leaf extract 10:1, ginger root extract, bromelain (2,400 GDU/g), organic lemon extract and organic Cordyceps militaris fruit extract, in a base of purified water, glycerin, natural flavors, citric acid, potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate.

Is VapoLung safe?

VapoLung's ingredients are widely used in foods and supplements, and the label keeps the dose small. Safety still depends on you: ginger, bromelain and Cordyceps can interact with blood thinners, and bromelain can trigger allergies. Pregnant or nursing women, anyone under 18 and people with a medical condition should ask a doctor first, as the label says.

Does VapoLung have side effects?

No side effects are published for VapoLung itself. For its ingredients, NCCIH lists stomach upset, heartburn, diarrhea and mouth or throat irritation for ginger, and stomach upset or diarrhea for bromelain. Stop using it and talk to a clinician if you notice a rash, swelling or unusual bruising.

Is VapoLung FDA approved?

No. VapoLung is not FDA approved, and no dietary supplement is: the FDA does not approve supplements before sale. The label says it is made in an FDA-registered facility, which is a registration, not a review of the product, and its statements have not been evaluated by the FDA.
